Press Release Writing Sample – Mostly Merlot

During my Senior year at Gonzaga University, I had the opportunity to intern with Cancer Patient Care two days a week.  Below is a press release I crafted for their annual Mostly Merlot charity event.

Mostly Merlot is Cancer Patient Care’s popular and prestigious wine dinner & auction event. Mostly Merlot sells out earlier and earlier every year.

Spokane, Washington- February 17, 2011- With wine and hope, anything is possible!  Cancer Patient Care’s 16th Annual Mostly Merlot Winemakers’ Dinner has arrived and will take place at the prestigious Spokane Athletic Club on Saturday February 26, 2010.  This signature event, presented by Providence Regional Cancer Center, will benefit local cancer patients and their families and give them a fighting chance.

As the evening unfolds, volunteers, chefs, musicians, and guests will come to appreciate even more what a difference their support can make to the survivorship and quality of life for those battling cancer in our region.  The abundance of generous donations from the Spokane community will make this silent and live auction even more spectacular.
Special guest speaker Melanie Morlan will also share her personal experiences at the Winemaker’s Dinner.  Morlan has worked on the Olympic Committee and is a Regional Delegate for the Livestrong Foundation and a Livestrong Leader for Spokane.  Recently, she helped launch and implement Cancer Patient Care’s Complementary Therapies and Wellness Activities Program for Breast Cancer Survivors.

The exquisite combination of five well-loved and talented local chefs, led by Chef Urs Moser of the Spokane Club, fifteen local wineries and two classical musicians will add a twist of perfection to this night.  Concert pianist Tom Cooper will serenade the guests as they taste an amazing array of wines and peruse the myriad silent auction submissions.  A delectable five course meal expertly paired with five local wines specially selected for this event will follow.  The musical artisty of classical guitarist Johathan Nicholson will accompany this spectacular dining experience, which will be followed by the excitement of the live auction featuring many highly desirable offerings.
What makes this event special and unique to countless numbers of community members?  In 2010, the Mostly Merlot event was able to raise over $74,000 dollars that stays totally local and directly supports cancer patients in Spokane and ten Eastern Washington and seven North Idaho counties.

Cancer Patient care is thrilled to have 250 guests and volunteers join them as they raise awareness and their wine glasses to give hope and a fighting chance to cancer patients in the Inland Northwest.
